Police in Brookfield and Riverside have launched their holiday traffic enforcement crackdowns, targeting impaired drivers and those not wearing seatbelts.

The enforcement efforts – “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” – funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, will run through Jan. 1.

In Riverside, the effort will be targeted at late-night drivers between midnight and 3 a.m., which, according to IDOT, “is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways” and also is when police see the highest number of impaired drivers and the lowest seatbelt usage.

Brookfield police will also be targeting impaired drivers during the late-night hours, but will be stepping up patrols during the day as well, focusing on seatbelt enforcement.
