Want the inside info on how Brookfield’s police department and its officers operate on a day-to-day basis? Then you just may want to be a part of the department’s Citizens Police Academy, which is open to all residents and business owners in the village who are 18 years or older.

The academy will meet every Thursday night for 10 weeks, from Jan. 12 to March 15 and will cover a range of topics, from expanding knowledge of police procedures to learning about traffic stops, gang and drug enforcement efforts, patrol techniques, SWAT, firearms and more.

The classes run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Brookfield Police Department, 8820 Brookfield Ave.

Those interested in participating can pick up an application at the police department 24 hours a day or visit the village of Brookfield’s website at www.brookfieldil.gov and download an application, which must be returned to the police department in person. There is no cost for participating.

A routine background check will be conducted on all applicants. Additionally, a waiver of liability must be signed by each participant. For more information, contact Lt. Edward Petrak at 485-1742.
