Walter Lewis Baker, 87, of North Riverside, died Dec. 10, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Baker was born on June 22, 1924 in Chicago to Lewis and Mildred Baker. He served in the U.S Army during World War II, and after the war was employed for more than 30 years at Western Electric in Cicero, retiring as a department chief.

He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling, often with the Ascension Lutheran Church Leisure Group to elder hostels. He also volunteered at the church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine B. Baker (nee Bussema), and his sister, Betty (the late Victor Domzalski) Hartman. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Robert) Osbrink and Henry (Joanne) Baker; his grandchildren, Claire Baker, Russell Baker and Ruth Osbrink; and his sister, Marilyn (the late Reynold) Appino; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Dec. 16 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Riverside, followed by interment at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
