The Komarek eighth grade girls basketball team finished their historic season with a 17-1 record, the most single-season wins in the program’s history.

With an undefeated 10-0 conference record, the Lady Wildcats captured their first eighth grade title in the Salt Creek Valley Conference since 1999. In addition to Komarek School (Dist. 94, North Riverside), the SCVC includes Albright (Villa Park), Gross (Brookfield), Hauser (Riverside), Hillside (Hillside), and Lindop (Broadview). The conference title was complemented by victories of over Gross, 36-26, and Lindop 42-27, in the finals to capture the SCVC Tournament Championship.

Earlier in the season, the Lady Wildcats also won the Berwyn YMCA Thanksgiving Tournament, the first time in school history that Komarek won the tourney. Selene Anaya, Samantha Bloom and Elexis Walker were selected to the YMCA All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Wildcats are led by co-captains Anaya and Jessica JnoBaptiste. Bloom, Breuna Wilson, Brenda Ulloa, Joseline Jimenez, Sonia Villalobos, Areli Vargas, Walker, Arta Latifi, and Cynthia Palacio completed the championship roster. Bloom and Latifi are seventh graders, so will return next season to lead the Wildcats in defending their title.

The team is coached by Christopher Bedalow. Student managers include Mikey Berscheid, James Kaczmarczyk, and Zach Witken.
