In addition to the signal change, the village of Riverside is poised to pass a new law restricting parking on Ridgewood Road in front of Riverside-Brookfield High School immediately before and after school.

Village trustees are expected to vote to approve the change at their meeting on Feb. 20. As soon as the signs are put in place, parking will be prohibited on the north side of Ridgewood Road between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m. and from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. on days when school is in session.

The restriction will not include the one handicapped parking space in front of the school. However, the rule is expected to make it easier for vehicles to pull up to the curb to quickly let out or pick up students.

The law was proposed by the village’s Traffic and Parking Review Committee, which included representatives from the police and fire departments, high school and Brookfield Zoo. It was also unanimously recommended by members of the Riverside Public Safety Commission.
