After an inauspicious 0-3 start to the season, the Riverside-Brookfield High School baseball team caught fire last week ripping off five victories in a row and establishing plenty of momentum for an important upcoming three-game series against Glenbard South.

RB took two games from host Walther Lutheran on Saturday with impressive 8-2 and 7-5 victories. In the opener, sophomore Will Kincanon earned the win giving up three hits and fanning eight in six stellar innings of work. He was also a force at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. He and Alex Nenadovic blasted back-to-back homers in the top of the first inning setting the table for five runs in the frame. Jack Scott added three hits, two RBI and three runs.

The Bulldogs completed their sweep of last year’s state finals runner-up in the Class 2A playoffs with a 7-5 victory. Nenadovic (four earned runs, three hits allowed in five innings) battled to earn his second win of the spring, while Kevin Garvey contributed two frames of scoreless relief.

Offensively, RB had 10 hits led by C.J. Duffek, who drove in two runs and stole two bases. Alex Spirios and Luke Keller both finished with two hits in the nightcap.

RB preceded its doubleheader sweep by rocking Elmwood Park 11-2 on Friday. Ryan Brown (1-0) picked up the win, tossing a six-hitter while the Bulldogs amassed 15 hits against the Tigers.

Kincanon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and Spirios finished 3-for-4 with three runs knocked in. Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, the Bulldogs quickly quelled any potential drama by exploding for nine runs in the frame.

The Bulldogs set the tone for their monster week with a pair of shutouts over Morton 1-0 on March 29 and St. Patrick 8-0 on March 27.

Adam Kuta and Nenadovic were the winning pitchers for RB. Kuta was particularly brilliant against Morton, allowing just three hits and striking out 10 hitters in a complete-game effort.
