A man brandishing a black semiautomatic handgun robbed the Dunkin Donuts at 9200 Ogden Ave., Brookfield, on Sunday about 5:30 p.m.

A witness, who was paying for coffee at the time of the robbery, told police that the man walked up to the cash register behind the counter and yelled to the clerk, “Give me the money.”

The offender reportedly pointed a black handgun directly at the 73-year-old customer while reaching into the cash register to grab the currency. The offender then exited the store, got on a BMX-style bicycle and rode away westbound on Ogden Avenue.

Police searched the area but could not locate a subject matching the description given by witnesses. The Illinois State Police evidence technicians and a county bloodhound unit were called in to process the scene.

The bloodhound reportedly led police to a home in Brookfield a few blocks away from the business, and police interviewed a subject there. Police, however, made no arrests.

The suspect is described as being a black or Hispanic male with a slim build, about 5-feet-10 or 5-feet-11, wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt and a blue or black hat.

The store re-opened for business at 8:15 p.m., according to the police report. The business owner said he would advise police as to how much money was stolen after checking register reports on Monday.
