Rev. James F. Nallen, 72, who served as an assistant pastor at St. May Parish in Riverside from 1974 to 1981, died on July 14, 2012 after suffering a stroke while visiting Morris, Ill.
Rev. Nallen was a Chicago native who was ordained a Catholic priest in 1966 by Cardinal John Cody. His first assignment was assistant pastor at St. Odilo Parish in Berwyn, where he served until 1973. He spent one year at Our Lady of the Snows near Midway Airport before being assigned to St. Mary’s in Riverside.
In 1981, he was named associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Melrose Park and pastor of St. Ethelreda Parish on Chicago’s South Side in 1982. Rev. Nallen stayed there until the parish closed in 2005, at which time he was named pastor of St. Columba, retiring from active ministry on July 1, 2012.
Rev. Nallen is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Nallen, of Wheeling. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Michael Nallen.
