Longtime Brookfield Public Library Trustee Carol Vaughan Kissane has been named the 2012 Trustee of the Year by the Illinois Library Association (ILA).

During her 30 years on the library board, Kissane has served as president and vice president and has been involved in three referendum campaigns and was instrumental in the development of the construction plan for the current library building.

Kissane’s nomination for the award touted her passion for “legislative advocacy for libraries by cultivating relationships with state legislators” and for her leadership roles with the ILA Trustee Forum, the ILA Conference Committee and her service as a trustee of the Metropolitan Library System and the Illinois Library System Trustees Forum.

The ILA Trustee of the Year award is given annually to a public library trustee for achievement, leadership and service to libraries. The award is sponsored by Bradbury Associates/Gossage Sager Associates.

Kissane will receive her award at the ILA’s annual conference and awards luncheon on Oct. 9 at the Peoria Civic Center.
