The Chew Chew, Scott Zimmer’s destination restaurant in Riverside, is hiring. Is business booming? Well, it may boom even more when the eatery appears on the local restaurant review show Check, Please!

On Wednesday evening, Sept. 26, a film crew will be on hand to interview Zimmer and shoot footage of some of the restaurant’s dishes and action inside the Chew Chew, 33 E. Burlington St.

“It’s a very exciting time for our little restaurant in Riverside,” said Zimmer, who has operated the restaurant in its present location since 2009. Before that, the restaurant was located for 11 years in the Arcade Building in downtown Riverside.

Check, Please! appears on WTTW-TV Channel 11 and features everyday folks reviewing one another’s favorite eateries. The show has been known to result in the “Check, Please! bounce,” driving curious diners to the places featured on it – hence the need for more staff.

“We’re adjusting our staffing,” said Zimmer. “Estimates vary on the impact the show has, but we’re hoping for some nice words from the people who came to visit us.”

According to Zimmer, the “studio” portion of the episode featuring The Chew Chew has already been shot. The new fall season for Check, Please! is scheduled to begin airing in October. Zimmer said there’s no word yet on exactly when the show featuring Chew Chew will air.

It’s not the first time the Chew Chew has attracted the attention of Check, Please! Zimmer said the restaurant has been picked twice before, but never before had the show sent a camera crew out for the interview and interior filming.

According to Zimmer, the show sent a list of 20 food items to prepare in advance of the film shoot.

“I was told by the producer that we’re one of the number one restaurants in the suburbs to be requested for the show,” said Zimmer. “I’ve had over 100 guests say they’ve nominated The Chew Chew.”
