John A. Spala, 89 of North Riverside, died Dec. 19, 2012.
Mr. Spala was born June 8, 1923 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he worked for International Harvester as a systems analyst.
He was the husband of the late Dianne Spala (nee Szacik); the father of David Spala, Cynthia (David) Lewanski, Christopher (Melissa) Spala and Julianne (David) Stumpf; the grandfather of Hilary Spala, David Spala, Alyssa (fiancé Braxton Peterson) Spala, Jenna Lewanski, Corey Spala, Kylie Spala, Jacob Spala, Eric Stumpf, Jack Stumpf, Haley Stumpf and Anna Stumpf; and the brother of the late Lilian Filip, the late Frank J. Spala and the late Mildred Fullam.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 22 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
