Due to Lyons Township High School’s huge upset at the recent Chicago International Model United Nations 50-school convention, where they earned Best Delegation, LT Model UN is now ranked 1st in Illinois and 9th in North America. Rankings are determined by Best Delegate, an education company that helps students and teachers worldwide succeed at Model United Nations through workshops, consulting and online resources.

LT MUN is gearing up for its next challenge – SILTMUN, a Model United Nations conference jointly hosted by students from St. Ignatius College Prep and LTHS scheduled for February 2. SILTMUN was started in 2011 with its first conference at St. Ignatius. SILTMUN is a one day training conference with a focus on cabinets and crises that challenge new and veteran delegates alike. The goal is to offer a conference that prepares delegates for intense cabinet positions at the large, multi-day conferences offered by colleges and universities held in major cities across the United States and internationally.

A few of the SILTMUN committees include, United Nations Human Rights Council, European Union, NATO, Scottish Parliament, Security Council and Arab League. To date, 17 schools plan to participate in the conference.

The Model United Nations experience brings to life the problems that face the real world and allows participants to represent their assigned country’s position and work toward resolving issues of global importance. Model United Nations is an authentic simulation of the UN General Assembly. A Model UN delegate is a student who assumes the role of an ambassador to the United Nations.
