Loraine P. “Spark” Shanel (nee Gorman), 86, a longtime resident of Glen Ellyn and Fort Myers, Fla., died Feb. 28, 2013.
Ms. Shanel was born Oct. 29, 1926 and grew up in Brookfield, graduating from Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1944.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James E. Shanel; her children, Kathleen, Christy Murphy, James and William (Susie); her grandchildren, Patricia Hogan, Kristina Hogan, Andy Marsch, Kenny Marsch, Scott Marsch, William Marsch, Christopher (Cody) Murphy, James Shanel, Mollye Shanel, Kathryn Shanel, Ashley Shanel and Will Shanel; her great-grandchildren, Andrew, Logan, Emily and Holter; and her brother, Thomas (Carol) Gorman. She was preceded in death by her son, Scott, and her parents, Thomas and Lillian Gorman.
Services have been held. Interment was at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton. Memorial donations are appreciated to Children’s Research Foundation, P.O. Box 205, Clarendon Hills, Ill. 60514, a nonprofit foundation co-founded by Ms. Shanel in 1957 to support medical research in diseases of children, or CNS Home Health and Hospice, 690 E.
