The vision of 21 people was tested for diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration by a team from Lions Clubs International when the Riverside Township Lions Club held a diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration screening March 11 at Riverside Township Hall.
The Riverside Township Lions Club donates to organizations that provide services to the blind and deaf, as well as to organizations that assist children and adults who are disabled or have special needs. Financial support also is provided to a number of local charities and organizations.
Organizations serving Riverside Township that received donations this year include the North Riverside and Riverside public libraries to purchase materials for the hearing-impaired and visually-impaired; the anti-drug program at Hauser Junior High School in Riverside; Boy Scout Troops 24 and 92; Explorer Posts 390 and 126; People Care in Riverside; the Riverside Township Food Pantry; Girl Scout Troops 4590 and 657; the Riverside Historical Commission; the North Riverside Historical Society; and the Riverside Friends of July 4th.
Other west suburban organizations receiving donations this year include Pillars in Berwyn; Helping Hand Rehabilitation Center in Countryside; Scottish Home in North Riverside; Seguin Services Inc. in Cicero; the Aging Care Connections in La Grange; the Riverside-North Riverside VFW Post; All in for Ethan; and the American Cancer Society.
In addition, donations were given this year to Dogs for the Deaf, the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, Chicagoland Radio Information Services, Guild for the Blind, Hadley School for the Blind, Recording for the Blind, Chicago Hearing Society, the Illinois Eye Bank and the Fisher House at Hines VA Hospital.
Donations also were made to Camp Lions, Vision First and the Lions Governor’s Fund, endeavors associated with Lions International.
