The Lyons Township High School softball team took second place at the St. Charles East tournament over the weekend. On Saturday, the Lions edged Hoffman Estates 2-0 as Ashley Koziol picked up the victory with seven strikeouts, and Courtney Petrosius went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Lions also defeated Maine South 3-1 and Harlem 4-1 on Saturday. Leah Nunez smacked a homer and Kayla Morrissey added a two-run double to fuel the LTHS offense against Maine South.
Koziol went 2-for-4 at the plate against Harlem and Katie Dzierwa notched the complete-game victory allowing one earned run and scattering six hits along with fanning four batters.
In the Lions’ opening games on Friday at St. Charles East, they blanked St. Ignatius 3-0 before losing 11-2 to St. Charles East.
