Riverside-Brookfield boys volleyball
The Bulldogs garnered third place at the Downers Grove North Invite with a 25-22, 26-24 win against Willowbrook as Mike Kosik (10 kills), Tim Thor-Larsen (seven kills) and Danny Nava (18 assists, eight digs) led the victors.
In the other matches at DGN, the Bulldogs beat Schaumburg 25-20, 25-19 but lost matches to the host Trojans, Willowbrook (first meeting) and Metea Valley.
RBHS visited Oak Park on April 23 in the schools’ annual meeting. Although Thor-Larsen recorded a team-record seven blocks and Mitch Malloy and Jack Gibson had four kills each, the Huskies prevailed in a 25-23, 26-24 thriller.
Lyons Township boys volleyball
The Lions (16-2) remained on fire rallying for a 23-25, 25-15, 27-15 win over Hinsdale South and sweeping a 25-20, 25-19 match against St. Rita.
Riverside-Brookfield girls water polo
The Bulldogs (13-15) won a pair of matches, earning a 10-6 victory over Northside Prep and claiming 13-8 decision against Waubonsie Valley.
Sydney Veon (four steals, two goals) and Emma Veon (two goals, two assists) led RBHS against Northside, while Allie Shumowsky and Dana Callanan netted four goals apiece and goalie Amy Frey had 16 saves in the Bulldogs’ win over Waubonsie.
Riverside-Brookfield softball
RB lost three of four games last week falling to 4-15 overall and 3-4 in the Metro Suburban Conference.
The Bulldogs rocked Ridgewood 12-1 on April 24 as Katie O’Connell dominated in the circle with a complete-game victory. The sophomore pitcher allowed only three hits and struck out 10. The Bulldogs belted four home runs as catcher Emily Hastings crushed two homers, while left fielder Lana Herrmann and senior first baseman Ashlee Haugh added solo shots.
Lyons Township boys gymnastics
The Lions scored a 131.35 at the West Suburban Silver conference meet at Hinsdale Central on Saturday. LTHS’ Chris Rediehs finished runner-up in the all-around with a score 52.4. He won the parallel bars with a final score of 9.35.
Hinsdale Central’s Brian Thompson took the all-around title (56.15) to power the Red Devils’ team championship (148.2).
Riverside-Brookfield boys tennis
Ryan Gradishar earned the consolation title by winning three of four matches at the Brother Rice Crusader Classic on Saturday.
In dual conference matches last week, RB lost to Glenbard South 6-1 but defeated Fenton 4-3. Peter Pierdinock and J.P. Sengstock paved the way for RB’s win over the Bison.
Riverside-Brookfield badminton
The Bulldogs finished fifth at the Independent Conference Meet hosted by DeKalb on Saturday. Alex Bakalich won three of five contests to garner a bronze medal.
