A Bryant University’s commencement ceremony on May 18, Brookfield resident Evan Bartlett received the Pell Medal for United States History Award for Excellence and was also awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, magna cum laude. Bryant University is in Smithfield, R.I.

Brookfield resident Christine Prevolos received a master’s degree in historic preservation during commencement ceremonies on May 19 at the University of Vermont.

Kiley Rose Rusen, a resident of Brookfield, has been recognized as a dean’s list student from the 2013 spring semester at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga. Students achieving a grade-point average of at least 3.5 during the semester with a 3.0 overall GPA are eligible for the dean’s list.

The following local students recently were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee: Brookfield residents Erin Sventy and Kyle Antene, who are pursuing degrees in biomedical sciences; Riverside resident Daniel Tallarico, who is pursuing a degree in finance; and Riverside resident Colleen Carey, who is pursuing a degree in public relations.

Matthew Scott, of Brookfield, and Joe Ruge, of North Riverside, have been named to the dean’s honors list for the spring 2013 semester at the University of St. Francis in Joliet. The two attained a semester GPA of at least 3.5.

Kettering (Ohio) College has announced that Tahlaya D. Gonzalez, a human biology major from Brookfield, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester. She achieved a semester GPA of at least 3.5 with no grade below a B-minus.

Brookfield residents Megan M. Hand and Julie Mohedano, North Riverside resident April A. McGee and Riverside resident Brendan J. Farnham have all been named to the dean’s list at Bradley University in Peoria for the spring 2013 semester. Each achieved a GPA of at least 3.5 for the semester.

On May 25, Sheela Turbek, of Brookfield, graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, with a major in biology and Spanish and a minor in environmental studies.

Brookfield resident Brittany Hite was one of 36 Augustana College (Rock Island) students who studied abroad in Ireland for 11 weeks during the spring 2013 semester. The 11 weeks were divided between Galway and Dublin. Hite, a junior, is majoring in sociology and psychology.

Several local students recently graduated from Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park, including Brookfield residents Natalie Crisanti (Illinois State Scholar, ESCC Scholar-Athlete), Rachel Dimaranan, Nicholas Kosenesky, Ashley Scott (Illinois State Scholar) and Jacqueline Sukacz (Nazareth Science Achievement Award in Environmental Science); North Riverside residents Lauren Dore, Brandon Eugling, Tyler Van Dahm, Samantha Wilcox (recipient of the Elizabeth Anne Rimkus Memorial Scholarship for the Arts) and Sarah Wozniak (Illinois State Scholar); and Riverside residents Andrew Golniewicz and Josephine Krajniak.

Marie Morganthaler, a student at Riverside-Brookfield High School, earned an honorable mention award and a $250 cash prize for her video about the hazards of radioactive radon gas in the Illinois Emergency Management Agency/American Lung Association’s annual video and poster contest.

Lyons Township High School senior Samantha Lenz, a resident of Brookfield, was one of 10 members of the school’s Business Professionals of America who competed in the annual National BPA Leadership Conference contests, which test students’ business skills.
