The Brookfield-based Western Conference Babe Ruth 15 year olds all-star baseball team, defeated LaGrange, Westmont, Downers Grove, Calument City, Lansing, Geneseo, Hegewisch en route to an 8-1 record in district and state-level games. The team also claimed the Northern Illinois state title in Calumet City over the summer.
Solid pitching and defense coupled with consistent hitting proved to be the keys to success, as the team outscored their opponents at the state-level 78 runs to 14 runs over six games. The team also proudly represented the 10 Babe Ruth baseball districts of Northern Illinois in the Ohio Valley Regional tournament in July.
The Western Conference district covers Brookfield, Riverside, North Riverside, Stickney, Oak Park, River Forest, La Grange Park, Berwyn, Lyons and other local communities. The players on this team are students at the following local high schools: Morton West, Riverside-Brookfield, Nazarath Academy, Lyons Township and Oak Park-River Forest.
