The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for our area.  The Chicago area forecast calls for heavy rains including possible thunderstorms beginning this evening and continuing into Thursday afternoon.  The storm event is expected to dramatically increase the potential for flooding in the entire Chicago area.

The Village of Riverside is monitoring weather conditions in response to the forecast and is prepared to take action if the river level rises above 7 feet.  As of 1:00 p.m., the river level was 3.09 feet, but the area is under a flood watch from late tonight through Thursdayafternoon. To assist residents is preparing for possible flooding, Public Works crews have been actively clearing catch basins throughout the village and have delivered sand and sandbags to areas prone to flooding.  The Village asks all residents to help ensure catch basins remain clear of any debris or snow that may prevent water flow and to contact the village if they notice water ponding on village roadways.  To report ponding between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., please call the Department of Public Works at 442-3590.  To report ponding or other flood related issues after hours, please call the Police Non Emergency number at 447-2127.
