If Easter is around the corner, then local stores are stocking up on Peeps, the sugar-coated, colorfully dyed marshmallow treats shaped like birds and rabbits.
While the sweets are a guilty pleasure for many, sometimes they’re used for other purposes — like dioramas.
The Riverside Arts Center is sponsoring a Peep shoebox diorama contest called “In the News,” which challenges people to recreate scenes taken from news headlines.
The dioramas must be delivered to the Riverside Public Library, 1 Burling Road, between 5 and 7 p.m. on April 3. A complete submission form must be included.
You can download a submission form by visiting the Riverside Arts Center website. The website also has pictures of winners from last year, the first year the RAC sponsored the contest.
The contest is open to all ages, and winners will be announced on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at the library. Top three winners will receive handmade ceramic Peep trophy. Prizes also include RAC gift certificates. The dioramas will remain on display at the library until April 17.
