Not funny. Last week’s letter (“Meanwhile, over in Riverside,” Letters, July 9) about a “lawn care union” and village-imposed fees for leaf blowers is a hoax, one that was dripping with ideologically driven ill will.

Every American has the right to despise unions, government, and the environment if he or she wishes. But it’s not appropriate for the Landmark to publish such inflammatory lies under the guise of a legitimate commentary on community affairs.

This is the kind of thing that fosters anger, partisanship, extremism and xenophobia for no good reason. I hope all of your readers have come to realize that the claims in this letter were pure fabrication intended to turn people against one another.
