When word filtered out last week that vandals had broken into and damaged a portion of the main house at the Avery Coonley Estate in Riverside, it was sobering news.

The “bedroom wing” of the Coonley Estate had been vacant for years and apparently vulnerable for some time to just about anyone with a sense of curiosity. A main door to the residence had been sold by the present owner (the property is now in foreclosure) and replaced with cardboard and a piece of tarp.

Quite frankly, we’re really lucky the whole thing wasn’t trashed or burned to the ground.
