Riverside advanced to the Roy A. Overholt Invitational semifinals but lost to LaGrange 8-5 with a title game berth on the line. Western Springs defeated LaGrange in the championship game.

After a 10-0 loss to Berwyn in opening round action of the highly regarded annual Little League tourney, Riverside rebounded well with three wins in a row.

One of the victories included a 12-6 decision over Berwyn. Riverside pitcher Liam Corbisiero drilled a 2-run home run and pitched five innings to earn the win, while Andrew Dakuras and Danny Kawiecki both contributed multiple hits and RBIs. Michael Adler’s 2-run single and shortstop Jonathan Ortiz’s stellar defense also held Berwyn in check as Riverside enjoyed a measure of revenge.

“This team showed so much heart coming back to take third place,” Riverside coach Paul Kawiecki said. “I’m very proud of the kids, and we played great defensive baseball throughout. We just ran out of gas in the last game.”
