It’s that time of year when school reunions take place. For many, it is getting together with those one may have not seen since graduation. For others, it is a chance to have a good time with those one hasn’t seen in a long time.

It is also a time when one can pay tribute to the accomplishments of many graduates. At Riverside-Brookfield High School recognition of distinguished alumni comes through the Alumni Achievement Medal.

The award is determined by a committee of former graduates, community members and a member of the RBHS staff. The committee seeks candidates for the award and their application forms remain on file for three years, after which their nomination can be resubmitted.

Candidates for this award come from various fields. Upon selection, they are honored at a dinner at the high school for friends and family.

This year the dinner will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9 and will honor Paul Bronsteader (Class of 1988), Greg Potter (Class of 1978) and Ronald Slaby (Class of 1962).

Held at the school, it gives the recipients a chance to walk the halls of their alma mater and view the Alumni Achievement Medal wall where plaques with their pictures and brief biographies will be placed along with other previous recipients.

One of the purposes of this recognition is for students to learn the achievements of former students and give students a chance to meet those chosen, as the honorees visit classes.

For many of the honorees it is the first time returning to the hallowed halls since graduation and they enjoy looking for their old lockers and remark about the changes that have taken place at the school. Honorees will also be interviewed and the dinner will be taped to be aired at a later time on RBTV.

Nominations for the award are received all through the year, and forms can be obtained through the office of the superintendent.

The dinner will held at the high school on Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Price of the tickets is $40 and reservations are required by Sept. 29. Checks should be made out to Riverside-Brookfield High School and sent to the Superintendent’s Office at 160 Ridgewood Road, Riverside, Illinois, 60546.

Further information may be obtained by calling 708-442-7500.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees who know it’s great to be a Bulldog.

This story has been changed to correct the year Paul Bronsteader graduated from RBHS.
