The Lyons Township High School Girls in Engineering, Math & Science (GEMS) Club proudly presents Mr. Freeze’s Cryogenics Liquid Nitrogen Show Wednesday, October 1, at 6:30pm in the South Campus Performing Arts Center, 4900 S. Willow Springs Rd., Western Springs. The show is free and open to the public.

Jerry Zimmerman, better known as Mr. Freeze, attended Northern Illinois University and majored in Physics. For 10 years he worked in the aerospace industry in Boulder, Colorado. He has been working at Fermilab for the past 20 years on new detector research and machine design. As a volunteer, he has been doing cryogenic shows for schools for the past 22 years and been the Mr. Freeze of Fermilab since 1997. He gives shows to about 40 schools/ organizations and 5,000 students per year to encourage them and to get them excited about science.

The 40-minute cryogenic demonstration features some “cool” surprises and some fun facts about the cold.

GEMS is a community of girls pursuing an interest in science and engineering and exploring the many facets of the field.  The new LT club plans to visit science exhibits, hear from local women scientists and engineers, collaborate with local junior highs to get girls excited about science, and much more.
