If the weather breaks on Saturday — please, have mercy already — you can do your part to ensure Riverside’s landscape is populated by strong, native trees, such as oaks and hickories and walnuts, for centuries to come.

Head on over to Riverside United Methodist Church, 82 Woodside Road at 10 a.m., for the 8th Annual 1,000 Tree Planting Project, the brainchild of Tom Sisulak, who can tell you more about trees (and planting them) than just about anyone we can think of.

This year Sisulak’s volunteers will plant their 10,000th tree seed, which have sprouted by the hundreds along the riverbank in the village.

Thanks, Tom, for allowing ordinary people to leave a living legacy in Riverside.
