Robert J. Moravecek, 88, of Westchester and formerly of Cicero, died April 6, 2015.
Mr. Moravecek was born May 17, 1926 to Joseph J. and Marie (nee Linhart) Moravecek. He graduated from Mary Queen of Heaven School in Cicero and St. Thomas Military School in St. Paul, Minnesota, before attending Columbia College and Worsham School of Mortuary Sciences. He spent two summers on stage at the Belfry Theater in Delavan, Wisconsin, and was a radio actor for CBS radio in Chicago.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 612th Tank Destroyer Battalion, which fought in many battles in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Moravecek was a licensed funeral director for 66 years and the third-generation owner of Moravecek Funeral Home. His son, David, owns Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home in Riverside.
He was very active in many fraternal organizations and charities, and served as an auxiliary police officer for the Town of Cicero.
Mr. Moravecek was married for 65 years to Ida (nee Vieceli). He was the father of Robert J. Sgt. Secretary of State P.D., Ret. and Morton College P.D. (Judith), Louis Lt. Countryside P.D. Ret. (Christine), Lawrence Cicero F.D. Fire Marshall, Ret., John Master Patrolman Bolingbrook P.D. Ret. (Gayle), David (Gosha), Richard Asst. Chief Cicero F.D. (Joann) and Mary Cerasi Moravecek “Princess”; the grandfather of Jennifer, Brian, Louis, Steven, Mark, Caitlyn, Laura, Klaudia, Izabela, Lauren, Kristina, Richard and Frank; the great-grandfather of Cody, Konrad, Kornelia, Chloe and Leah; the brother of the late Mary (late Joseph) Kolar and the late Joseph J. (Loretta) Moravecek; the brother-in-law of Louis (Joan) Vieceli and the late Joseph (Genevieve), late Lawrence (late Josephine) and Mary (late Walter) Borlick; and special uncle “Bob” to Rosemarie (late Bud) Kosik, Joanne (Fred) Zak, Edward “Zeke”, James (Debbie), Thomas (Deborah), Joanie Hofsteade, Walter Borlick, Nancy (Jeff) Mersch, Louis (Jill) and James Borlick, Laura (Michael) Brooks, Joseph, Ronald, Michael (Lisa) and Janet Vieceli, Gina (Steve) Berry, Lisa Romaine and Louis (Deb) Vieceli and the late Joseph (Barbara) Kolar and the late Joseph J. (Michelle) Moravecek.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 10, starting at 2 p.m. at Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St. in Riverside. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at Divine Providence Church in Westchester, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
