Burger Antics, the gourmet hamburger restaurant at 3740 Grand Blvd. in Brookfield, opened its doors last week to become the latest addition to the dining/entertainment scene in the Grand/Prairie business district.

And throughout the first week, despite some final touches awaiting completion in the dining room, the place has been packed much of the time since owners Dan and Brenna Velcich swung the door open on April 14.

“We had 16 people waiting outside on [April 14],” said Dan Velcich, who manages the front of the house while Brenna works as head chef in the kitchen. “The first two days they kicked our butt, but we’re having a great time.”

The restaurant, whose menu can be found online at www.burgerantics.com, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s closed Mondays.

In addition to burgers, customers can get appetizers, salads and desserts. There’s also a full bar with craft beer and artisanal spirits — a list Dan Velcich said will grow over time.

While the walls were bare last week, Dan said the business has already lined up its first artist of the month and that artwork should be hanging soon.

Burger Antics came to Brookfield from Countryside, where the Velciches leased kitchen space inside a tavern. But after a 15-month run in Countryside, they decided to open a place of their own.

The restaurant features weekly and monthly specials. Last week, Burger Antics featured a burger called the Cherry Bomb, topped with goat cheese and fire-roasted habanero/cherry compote. That was the first specialty burger featured when the Velciches opened Burger Antics in Countryside, so they decided to reprise the offering.
