Herman “Hy” Feldman, 88, of Tacoma, Washington, died April 14, 2015.
Mr. Feldman was born Feb. 21, 1927 in South Fallsburg, New York. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the 24th Infantry Division in Japan and later was
professor of psychology at Indiana University Northwest. There he taught and served a dean of arts and sciences and chancellor. Mr. Feldman was also head of research at Methodist Hospital in Gary.
He was instrumental in saving and creation of the Hoosier Prairie, a 1,500-acre state nature preserve that is part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Mr. Feldman is survived by his sons, James B. Feldman, of Tacoma, Washington, and Ted Feldman, of Riverside, and three accomplished granddaughters, Tess, Katherine and Julia.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Herman and Mae Feldman Scholarship fund at Indiana University Northwest in Gary, through the Indiana University Northwest webpage.
There will be a memorial open house at Ted Feldman’s home at 251 Longcommon Road, in Riverside, on Friday, May 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m
