Mary E. Portner, 91, a lifelong resident of Brookfield, died April 16, 2015 at Franklin Grove Living and Rehab Center in Franklin Grove.
Ms. Portner grew up in Brookfield, where she attended St. Barbara School. She enjoyed cooking and baking Croatian pastries, reading, listening to music, watching classic movies and was known as a Hollywood trivia buff.
She was the wife of the late John F. Portner, who preceded his wife in death on Feb. 5, 1998; the mother of John (Millie Leahy) Portner, Martin (Nadine) Portner, James (Kathy) Portner and the late Mary Kay Kitzberger; the grandmother of Sarah Jacobsen, Lauren Portner and Emily Portner; and the sister of Rose Shuster, Elizabeth Polanek and the late Eva Pollock.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 22 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of an 11 a.m. funeral service at Johnson Funeral Home, 3847 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
