Brookfield residents Kaitlin Lizik, Cody Betka, Jessica Coronel and Mason Odneal were among the 23 Lyons Township High School students and two teachers participating in the 2016 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Illinois.

Students and teachers took a plunge into the icy waters of Lake Michigan and raised $10,732, the most money of any group participating in the event. For the second year in a row, the school received the Golden Plungers Award for being the team raising the most money overall.

Over the past four years, LTHS has raised $41,293 with about 210 students and staff participating. For the fourth year in a row, LTHS was awarded the Cool School Challenge Golden Bear Award for being the high school with the most funds raised.
