Senior Richie Gentile threw a complete-game six-hitter and struck out six with no walks in the Bulldogs’ 10-2 win over Fenton at Redmond Park in Bensenville. Kyle Fitzgerald, Matt Armenta and Gentile had two hits apiece.
The Bulldogs also beat Walther Lutheran 7-4 as Al’Lon Carter picked up the victory, scattering four hits and striking out three in five innings. Sam Habayeb (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) and Enrique Trujillo (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) led RBHS offensively.
In other games last week, RBHS (12-4, 4-3 Metro Suburban West) lost to Oswego 7-3 and Ridgewood 6-1.
The Fenwick softball team finished off a busy week in strong fashion with an 11-0 victory over Taft in five innings Saturday at Priory Park in River Forest. Freshman pitcher Alyssa Stramaglia earned the win, throwing a two-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Catcher Kayley Sherwood paced the offense with two hits, two RBIs and one run scored for Fenwick, which went 3-2 overall last week.
Other highlights included Giselle Diaz hitting a grand slam during a 6-5 loss to Montini and Amanda Lopez going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, four RBIs and four runs scored in a 17-4 rout of Fenton.
Riverside’s Grace Tucek starred in a 6-3 win over Resurrection with a complete game victory including eight strikeouts. She also went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored against the Bandits.
The Roadrunners improved to 10-2 courtesy of Will McKenna’s game-winning hit against St. Viator on Saturday. He went 2-for-4 as Nazareth edged the Lions 5-4 in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.
RBHS boys volleyball
The Bulldogs split a pair of matches at Wheaton Academy and Hinsdale Central. RBHS earned a conference win against Wheaton Academy 25-13, 25-16 with contributions from Peter Ferguson (17 assists), Zach Georgopolous (10 digs), Maclean Nolan (7 kills) and Erik Hartwig (6 kills).
RBHS lost a three-set thriller to Hinsdale Central 23-25, 25-20, 26-28 as Nolan and Hartwig had 10 kills apiece. Georgopolous finished with 11 digs and Ferguson 28 assists for the Bulldogs (13-3).
RBHS girls soccer
Although sophomore forward Allie Kucera (10 goals, 3 assists) and junior midfielder Esther Annoreno (3 goals, 7 assists) are the Bulldogs’ top offensive threats, several players have contributed to the team’s 5-3-2 record.
Sophomore midfielder Gabby Tarrant was the hero of Saturday’s 2-1 win against Waukegan in the PepsiCo Showdown tourney. After Waukegan tied the score at 1-all with five minutes left in regulation, she scored the game-winning goal in the closing seconds of the second half. Kucera scored the first goal off an assist from Annoreno.
RBHS won three of four matches last week.
Fenwick girls soccer
Fenwick won two of three matches in PepsiCo Showdown action with a 4-1 win over Plainfield East and 2-1 overtime victory against Manteno. The Friars lost 1-0 on penalty kicks against Niles West.
The Friars (8-4) looked particularly sharp against Plainfield East with goals from Caitlin Josephs, Anna Waring, Patty Napleton and Annie Perez.
RBHS boys tennis
Ben Pollock turned in a tremendous effort at the Wheeling Invite, finishing 3-0 at second singles and 3-1 at first doubles. RBHS won the team title with wins against Addison Trail, Mundelein and Wheeling.
