BNSF Railroad has notified Riverside officials that it will no longer staff the Riverside train station with a ticket agent effective June 13. Because many commuters now purchase their tickets online or with a mobile device, it is no longer cost effective for Metra to staff the Riverside train station, said the railroad.
Commuters will have access to the train station between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., and riders boarding the train in Riverside will be able to purchase tickets from a conductor on the train at no extra charge.
Customers can also purchase train tickets from a ticket agent or vending machine at Union Station in Chicago or buy tickets online at www.metrarail.com. Customers can also buy Metra mobile tickets on their smartphones with the new Ventra App. The free app is available for download at the Apple Store and Google Play.
