You have probably seen them out walking in Riverside or attending one of the many events in Riverside, but Ann and Steve Kubiczky are most likely on a mission; they are a couple who give of themselves.
Recently the Kubiczkys honored by the Department of Religion, Health and Human Values at Rush University Medical Center with the Hero of the Heart Award for the volunteer efforts there.
The award was presented by Chaplain Gary Wilson at a breakfast in connection with the department’s quarterly memorial service held at Rush for family and friends of those who have passed away at the medical center. The Kubiczkys have been an integral part through their volunteerism with the service.
Ann and Steve have been a part of volunteer programs at Rush for approximately 25 years, During that time, Steve has logged more than 6,700 hours of volunteer service, while Ann has logged 3,700 hours.
Since 1992, they have served the medical center as ministers of care, distributing communion and as “cuddlers.”
Cuddlers are just that, cuddling babies who are patients in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Steve has also served on the Institution Review Board, Voluntary Advisory Committee and the Volunteer Services Scholarship Committee. Both have given their time to help with various cancer survivor days
With much of their time given to Rush Medical, they find time to give to their community through Riverside Township, where Ann serves as a trustee, and at St. Mary Church, their parish. Steve can be noted for his service to Triton College, where he was a member of the school board for 12 years.
Because of their willingness to do their parts, Ann and Steve Kubiczky are among those who have received the Bill Jansky Award for community spirit and giving by the Riverside Township Lions Club. When receiving the Jansky award, it was noted that the couple does many things together as volunteers, but individually they are always willing to serve and have done so.
So, congratulations Ann and Steve on another well-deserved award. I hope there is enough room on your wall for the latest certificate. I have a feeling more recognition will come your way.
It is said that if you need something done ask the busiest person, or in this case persons, and it appears Ann and Steve Kubiczky are those busy people who always have time to help.
