The Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride, which made its way to town for the first time in 2015 will make a return visit on Thursday, June 23. The local leg of the journey is part of a three-day, 63-mile ride throughout the Chicago area.

Those riding include wounded veterans transitioning to civilian life and gives them an opportunity to meet and bond with others facing similar challenges. The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit charity serving wounded veterans returning from war zones overseas.

The 18-mile ride on June 23 will start at 9:30 a.m. at Thatcher Woods at Thatcher and Chicago avenues in River Forest and will wind through River Forest, Oak Park and Forest Park before heading through North Riverside on Desplaines Avenue from Cermak Road to 31st Street and then west through Brookfield on 31st Street to Kemman Avenue, then south on Grand Boulevard, around the traffic circle to Washington Avenue where the ride will head east to Golf Road and the Brookfield Zoo’s South Gate.
