Police in North Riverside and Riverside will be increasing traffic patrols from Aug. 22 through Sept. 5 as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s grant-funded “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunk drivers.

During the enforcement period, according to a press release issued by the police departments, officers will show zero tolerance for impaired driving and seatbelt law violations.

“We need people to understand that impaired driving is a deadly crime,” said North Riverside Deputy Police Chief Deborah Garcia.

The special Labor Day-season enforcement period is funded by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT.
