Lois J. Strnad, (nee Hock), 86, a longtime resident of Riverside, died on May 6, 2017.  

Ms. Strnad worked as a sales associate at Carson Pirie Scott in North Riverside for over 30 years, was a loyal employee, and received many awards and recognitions for a job well done. 

She spent several years volunteering at Helping Hand Center doing various things, such as working at the Thrift Shop and helping out as needed. Her lifetime mission was taking care of her family. She did this in such a selfless way, always putting them first, especially her Down syndrome son, Georgie. 

Ms. Strnad was a devoted cheerleader, a fan of anything that involved her grandchildren, and her smile was contagious and could light up a room. 

She was the wife of the late George J. Strnad Sr.; the mother of Mary Ellen Riddle, Nancy (Jim) Dziekan, Pattie (Jim) Adams, Debbie (Jamie) Ross, the late Karen and the late Georgie Strnad Jr.; the grandmother of Jimmy (Meghan) Dziekan, Jimmy Adams, Danny Adams, Rachel Adams, George Ross, Lily Ross, Aubrey (Cory Deerwester) Riddle, Erik Riddle and Amber Riddle; the great-grandmother of Carys Deerwester and Leif Blair; the sister of the late Marianne (the late Edward) Spevacek and the late Dorothy (the late Arpad) Biro; and sister-in-law of Dorothy (the late Arthur) Lorr.  

Visitation is at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Road in Westchester on Thursday, May 11 from 3 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church in Riverside at noon with interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. 

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to Adult Services at Helping Hand Rehabilitation Center.
