Leona A. Dabkey (nee DeRuntz), 95, of Brookfield, died peacefully on May 22, 2017.
Born on March 30, 1922, in Chicago, Ms. Dabkey bowled everyday up to the age of 92 and was an enthusiastic Chicago Bulls and White Sox fan. She enjoyed reading the newspaper, doing crossword puzzles, and faithfully watched “Jeopardy” every day.
Ms. Dabkey was the original recycle/reuse/repurposer, and she almost always had a coupon for every purchase. She was a world-class worrier and put the feelings and needs of others ahead of hers. She had a strong sense of fairness and of right and wrong and will be forever loved and remembered for her gentle, quiet nature and encouraging smile.
She was the mother of Laurel Obert and Lee (Louise) Dabkey; the grandmother of John (Fernie Tiflis) Dabkey, Greg (Rachael) Dabkey, Kate (Eric) Hightower and Kristie (Ryan) Powers; the great-grandmother of Belle Dabkey; the aunt of Sharon (Bob) Smothers, Lorraine (Bradley Smith) Gudgeon, Margaret (Tom) Banick and Allen (Debbie) Dabkey; and a warm, comfortable lap for her cat, Coco Kitten.
Ms. Dabkey was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Earle Dabkey, and her parents, Leo DeRuntz and Elizabeth Arnold.
Visitation is on Wednesday, May 24 from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 8 p.m., at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd., 9445 31st St. in Brookfield. Interment is private at Parkholm Cemetery.
