A Berwyn couple called police on the evening of July 11 to report that they’d been robbed at gunpoint by three men in the parking lot of the North Riverside Park Mall, 7501 Cermak Road.

The victims, a 37-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, told police they’d arrived at the mall about 7 p.m. and parked in the east lot near the movie theater marquee sign. They entered the mall through the food court and visited several stores before leaving the mall and returning to their vehicle around 7:45 p.m.

As soon as they entered the vehicle, according to the police report, a black Hyundai Sonata pulled directly behind their vehicle, blocking them in. Three men, two armed with handguns, and all wearing black clothing and black half-face masks exited the Hyundai and yelled, “Give me your jewelry and cash!”

The male victim reportedly gave the men a “Cuban link” gold chain valued at $3,000 and a gold Citizen watch valued at $250 to the men before also handing over his wallet.

The three offenders then got back into the Hyundai and drove off northbound through the parking lot. The victims reportedly followed the Hyundai eastbound on Cermak Road, losing sight of it after it entered the Cermak Plaza parking lot.

Police from North Riverside, Berwyn, Riverside and Forest Park reportedly checked the area for a vehicle matching the one described by the victims, but none was located.
