In response to the Landmark’s endorsements for Board of Education for Brookfield-LaGrange Park District 95, I would like to take this opportunity to share why my experience over the past nine years make me an ideal candidate.
I currently have three children enrolled in the district, one of whom is about to graduate from eighth grade. I have been able to see how our schools function – from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Over these years I have served as co-chair for the Business Benefits Committee and am finishing my third year as the president of the Brook Park Council/PTO. I have an in-depth view of how the district works and have established relationships with administration, teachers and staff.
As I indicated in my Landmark questionnaire, I believe that there is a need for after-school care and now that there will be more space, I think the district should make this a priority.
I also would like to see the district put more focus on math – especially in the K-5 classrooms. I was pleased to hear a math specialist was hired for this school year and I think she is beginning to make an impact. But with the number of students in our school, I would like to see more than one support person with a focus on math.
Over these nine years, I have been very impressed with District 95 and I am grateful that my children have been given such amazing teachers to start their educational journey.
As a Board of Education member, I would commit to retaining these teachers and ensure that we make good decisions to continue to attract high-level teachers, staff and administrators.
I am proud to be a part of District 95 and I would be honored to serve on the Board of Education.
