Anthony J. Pogvara-Sandoval

A 20-year-old North Riverside man is being held without bond at Cook County Jail after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a local car dealer on the morning of April 8 and, later that same day, groping the buttocks of an employee at CVS, 7200 Cermak Road.

But, Anthony J. Pogvara-Sandoval’s troubled day began the night before. North Riverside police responded to the 2200 block of Burr Oak Avenue on April 7 at about 7:20 p.m. and arrested Pogvara-Sandoval, after a woman called to report that he had been on their property and, when told to leave, remained across the street from their house, verbally harassing them.

Police charged Pogvara-Sandoval with criminal trespass. According to police, he was released from custody on April 8 at about 5:10 a.m. and given a lift to the vicinity of Oak Park Avenue and 26th Street in Berwyn.

Just after 6 a.m., however, police were called to Castle Buick, 7400 Cermak Road, to investigate a vehicle theft that had just taken place.

An employee told police she was sitting in her office when an unknown man walked past. She asked a co-worker if anyone was supposed to be picking up parts, and was told no.

The man then entered a white GMC Arcadia with dealer plates and drove away. Surveillance video from the dealer showed the unknown man to be Pogvara-Sandoval, according to police.

Later that day police learned that Pogvara-Sandoval had driven the vehicle to another car dealership in Villa Park and dropped it off there and left before police arrived.

He reportedly told police he drove it to the Villa Park dealership because he used to work there. Pogvara-Sandoval then reportedly walked back to North Riverside and entered the CVS at about 7:55 p.m.

Pogvara-Sandoval reportedly asked an employee where the restrooms were. A few minutes later, Pogvara-Sandoval allegedly approached another female employee from behind and grabbed her buttocks before walking away and out of the store.

Police located him inside Jewel-Osco, 7201 24th St., a short time later and took him into custody. He was charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and battery.
