Brookfield police were called to the 3900 block of Sunnyside Avenue on the afternoon of Aug. 8 after a resident called to report that someone had poured red and white paint on the side of his home and onto his driveway.
Police reported that the paint was still wet, as if it had been recently dumped there, but did not find any empty cans of paint on the block or in the alley nearby. The victim told police the vandalism had occurred sometime after 6 p.m. the previous day and he discovered the wet paint that day.
According to the police report, a “no trespassing sign” that had been hung up across the victim’s driveway also had been moved.
Hammer through the window
Brookfield police responded to a residence in the 4300 block of Prairie Avenue on Aug. 7 about 10:10 p.m. after a resident called to report that someone had just thrown a hammer through their front living room window.
One resident told police she was lying down when she heard the sound of glass shattering. Another resident told police she was sitting in the living room when she observed a hammer come through the front window. No one was injured.
Police recovered the hammer, which was lying on the floor of the living room near the window. Neither resident observed anyone outside the home immediately after the incident, nor could police locate anyone suspicious in the area after their arrival.
Trump flag stolen
A woman called Brookfield police on the morning of Aug. 9 to report that her Trump 2020 flag, which had been flying next to the front porch, had been cut down and stolen during the overnight hours.
Police were unable to obtain surveillance video, according to police report, but the victim did tell an officer that, earlier that morning, she had observed a gold Prius driving slowly down the street. She said she did not notice if the flag was already missing by then.
Vehicle break-in
A resident of the 4600 block of Grove Avenue, Brookfield, called police on the morning of Aug. 10 to report that overnight someone entered her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in front of her home and removed a pack of water and a bank deposit slip.
DUI
Brookfield police charged a 42-year-old Brookfield man with drunken driving and cited him for other traffic offenses after officers responded to reports of a silver Ford Escape “all over the road” while driving in the 9500 block of Ogden Avenue, Aug. 4, about 8:45 p.m.
Police stopped the vehicle nearby and reported that the driver appeared intoxicated and that he failed field sobriety tests. Police reported recovering two open cans of cold beer in the vehicle.
At the time of his arrest, the driver also was wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet, said police, for an unrelated prior arrest and criminal charge. Police said the man also had a suspended driver’s license.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside, North Riverside and Brookfield police departments, Aug. 3-10, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
