The village of Riverside has rescheduled its Community Conversation on Policing, postponed last week following an illness contracted by Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel.

The session has now been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m., immediately prior to the regularly scheduled meeting of the Riverside Village Board in the auditorium of Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road. The village board meeting is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

The conversation on policing, which was called by Village President Ben Sells in the wake of the protests that followed the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police in May, will feature Weitzel, Deputy Chief William Gutschick and Lt. Frank Lara.

Sells will moderate the discussion.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, in-person attendance will be limited to 50 people. Members of the public can email questions they would like to ask to the village president at bsells@riverside.il.us. Those in attendance at the special meeting will be able to ask questions of the panel directly.

Any member of the public can watch the conversation on Riverside TV (Comcast Xfinity Channel 6 or AT&T U-Verse Channel 99) or via a livestream online at RiversideTV.us.
