Mary Barnette

Mary “Maureen” Barnette (nee Taylor), 80, of Brookfield, died Dec, 20, 2020.

She loved her family and had a way of making each person feel special. Ms. Barnette was a retired secretary in the nuclear medicine department at Hines V.A. Hospital.

A devout Catholic, she was a Eucharist minister and religious education teacher for many years at St. Barbara Church in Brookfield. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, baking, going to musicals and was up to joining into any adventure she was invited to.

She was a kind and caring friend who helped others in any way she was able. Some of her favorite things included banana bread, ice cream, chocolate milk and Jell-O shots (not!). She adored her two fur-baby kittens, Tara and Midge.

Ms. Barnette was the mother of Elizabeth (Edward) Spoeri, Denise Barnette, Janice (Thomas) Skrip and Mary (Tiger) Smith; the grandmother of Megan and Emily Spoeri, Brandon Skrip, Taylor (Drew) Moore, MaryKate and the late A.J. (Cassie) Smith; the great grandmother of Mikey and Raelynn Moore and Tori Sauleiko-Smith; the daughter of the late James and late Mary Taylor; the sister of the late James (Shirley) and late Robert Taylor; and a caring friend to her former spouse, Ken Barnette. She was an aunt and dear friend to many.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 26 from 9 a.m. till time of prayers at 10:30 a.m. at Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St., Riverside. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Barbara Church, Brookfield. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
