Haunted Halloween Ride
Cycle Brookfield invites families to its Haunted Halloween Ride on Oct. 28 for a 5-mile slow roll that will take you past the homes decorated for the season.
Don your costumes, decorate and light up your bikes and meet at Compassion Factory Art Gallery and Studio, 9210 Broadway Ave. at 7:15 p.m. The ride starts at 7:30 p.m. and ends back at Compassion Factory for treats and a bonfire.
Monsters on Mainstreet returns Oct. 29
The Brookfield Historical Society and Brookfield Chamber of Commerce will host the 23rd Annual Monsters on Mainstreet trick-or-treating event in the Grand Boulevard and Eight Corners business districts on Oct. 29 from noon to 3 p.m.

Participating businesses will have special Halloween pumpkin signs in their windows designating them as Monsters on Mainstreet locations where children are welcome to trick-or-treat. Last year’s event drew nearly 1,500 people.
Trick-or-treating will be followed by refreshments, pumpkin and taffy apple giveaways and a costume contest at S.E. Gross Middle School, 3524 Maple Ave., on the west playground.
Free taffy apples and pumpkins will be given away to the first 500 costumed trick-or-treaters beginning at 2:30 p.m. The costume contest begins at 3 p.m. and awards will be given for Scariest, Funniest and Most Creative in four different age groups. Adults are welcome to participate in the contest.
Radio Players present Halloween shows

The Riverside Township Radio Players will present their annual Halloween show on Oct. 28, recreating two classic programs from the Golden Age of Radio, including “The Parade” from the series “Dimension X” and “Don’t Tell Me about Halloween” from “Quiet Please.”

Dia de los Muertos at Compassion Factory

The Compassion Factory art Gallery & Studio, 9210 Broadway Ave. in Brookfield, will host a Dia de los Muertos Celebration on Oct. 29 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
There will be a live folkloric dance performance, ofrendas, food, Mexican hot chocolate, café de la Olla and face painting. This event is free, but donations for the food and drinks appreciated. All proceeds go toward next year’s event.

Brookfield Library screens ‘The Birds’
Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library, 3541 Park Ave., invites you to a special screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 horror-thriller “The Birds,” starring Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor during Movies With Marty, presented by film enthusiast Marty Blank on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.

Brookfield Parks & Rec Foundation Kickoff
The nonprofit Brookfield Parks & Recreation Foundation, which supports low-income families looking to enroll children in summer camp, before- and after-school care, youth sports and other activities, hosts a kickoff event on Nov. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Imperial Oak Brewing, 9526 Ogden Ave., Brookfield.

- North Riverside Park Mall, 7501 Cermak Road, hosts two Halloween-themed kids events in the coming week. On Oct. 29 from noon to 2 p.m. there’s the 2nd Annual Ghost Hunt where kids can search for 20 hidden ghosts throughout the mall, each assigned a special number. Turn in completed clue sheet and get a treat bag. On Oct. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. there’s a mall-wide Trick-or-Treat event with a costume contest at 4 p.m. and a costume parade at 5 p.m.
- The Frederick Law Olmsted Society wraps up its 2022 seasonal walking tours of Riverside, highlighting the village’s design, history and architecture on Oct. 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. The tour will cover the area south of the railroad tracks.
