The Riverside-Brookfield High School girls golf team won Willowbrook’s Rachael Gipson Invitational on Aug. 19 at Twin Lakes.
Senior Mayan Covarrubias also took first individually. Sophomore Lucia Vazzana was third and junior Taryn Schultz fifth.
The Bulldogs lost their Aug. 18 season opener to Nazareth 153-171. Covarrubias was the medalist with a 33.
Meanwhile, the RBHS boys defeated Elmwood Park 161-201 on Aug. 21 and De La Salle 166-202 on Aug. 17.
Senior Joey Garvey continued his strong start against Elmwood Park with a 38. Juniors Brady McCallum, Josh Udelson and Mike Oppegard added 41s.
Garvey (38) and McCallum (42) paced the Bulldogs’ victory over De La Salle. Garvey opened the season with 18-hole rounds of 77, 80 and 82.
The Lyons Township High School boys golf team turned in another solid performance Aug. 17 in beating Hinsdale South 150-167 at Carriage Greens. Charlie Novak (35), Tommy Niemiec and Liam Nelson (38s) and Joe Stetler (39) paced the Lions.
Anderson Palm, James Frehner and Nelson shot 38s and Charlie Forrest added a 39 in the 153-173 dual victory over Naperville North on Aug. 16 at Cress Creek.
At Prairie Landing on Aug. 15, the Lions (284) won its quad over defending Class 3A state runner-up Hinsdale Central (292), which did not use its full lineup, York (303) and St. Charles East (326). Novak, Forrest and Nelson and Niemiec shot 75s and Stetler 76.
The Lions were third (297) and their season-opening Naperville Central Invite on Aug. 14. Palm (71), Finley Tyrrell (74), Kevin Larmon (75) and Frehner (77) were their top scorers.
The LTHS girls defeated Addison Trail 155-197 on Aug. 15 at Flagg Creek. Senior Addison Watanabe was medalist with a par 33. Seniors Kayla Sinars and Keira Kessler shot 40s.
