
The Lyons Township High School boys golf team enters Class 3A postseason play with some momentum.
The Lions (299) finished second at the West Suburban Conference Silver Division Meet Sept. 19 at Prairie Bluff in Crest Hill with three top-14 individual all-conference medalists.
Junior Anderson Palm and senior James Frehner (72s) were awarded fourth and fifth, respectively, based on scorecard tiebreakers, and senior Charlie Novak (77) tied for 14th. Senior Kevin Larmon (78) was the fourth counting score, followed by junior Tommy Niemiec (79), freshman Charlie Forrest (80), sophomore Finley Tyrrell (81) and senior Joe Stetler (83).
The Lions won a fifth-score tiebreaker with Glenbard West for second in finishing behind Hinsdale Central (289).
The Lions play at the 3A Rolling Meadows Regional at Arlington Lakes Wednesday in Arlington Heights. A top-three team finish earns a berth to the LTHS Sectional Monday at Prairie Bluff.

The Lions (349) finished fifth at the West Suburban Conference Meet Sept. 20 at Village Greens and fifth in the final overall standings.
Three Lions earned top-20 individual all-conference honors.
Senior Addison Watanabe (80) was awarded seventh on a scorecard tiebreaker and senior Keira Kessler and sophomore Amelia Van Vuren (89s) tied for 20th. Junior Isabella Caulfield (91) was the fourth counting score, followed by junior Isabella Evans (94), and seniors Audra Porter (96), Kayla Sinars (100) and Victoria Halon (104).
The Lions were edged for fourth with Oak Park and River Forest on a fifth-score tiebreaker.
The Lions play at the Class 2A Glenbard East Regional Thursday at Glendale Lakes in Glendale Heights with hopes for a top-three team finish to advance to the Hinsdale South Sectional Monday at Carriage Greens in Darien.
LTHS girls swimming and diving
Senior Libby Langan shared individual top-scoring honors by contributing to four top-two finishes and the Lions’ 333 points pulled out the Rosary Invitational Saturday by one point over the host Royals.
Langan, Audrey Cavaliere and Ella Jean Kelly won the 200-yard freestyle relay with Lauren Jablonski (1:38.34) by .09 over Rosary and the 400 free relay with Kylie Thompson (3:34.28) by 3.14 seconds over St. Ignatius.
Langan won the 50 free (24.93) by .32 and was second in the 100 free (54.15).
Lindsay Forebaugh won the 500 free (5:15.31) by .80. The 200-medley relay (Thompson, Jablonski, Maeve Collins, Cavaliere in 1:50.27) was second.
Kelly was third in the 100 breaststroke (personal-best 1:06.37) and fourth in the 200 free (1:58.31).
Forebaugh (58.29) and Collins (58.80) finished 3-4 in the 100-butterfly. Thompson was fourth in the 500 free (5:18.92).
LTHS girls tennis
The Lions went 2-1 at the Lake Forest Quad Saturday, beating Barrington and the host Scouts 4-2 and losing to Glenbrook South 4-2.
Senior Maddie Rowen and junior Ashley Culin (No. 2 doubles) were 2-1 and freshman Abby Sullivan (No. 1 singles) was 2-0.
Current season records include Sullivan (10-6), Sofija Grujic (8-6 at No. 2) and Addy Pelling (8-3 at No. 3) in singles and Mia Graziano and Ginny Gibbs (6-11 at No. 1), Rowen and Culin (9-7), Sarah Crowe and Camille Woods (5-6 at No. 3) and Carolina Deuter and Rhia Nagale (7-1 at No. 4) in doubles.
LTHS cross country
The LTHS girls, ranked No. 15 in Class 3A by ILXCTF.com, finished seventh at the Palatine Invitational Saturday (239 points) behind five of the six top-ranked 3A teams.
Senior Julianne Melby was 31st (18:28.35 for 3.0 miles), .84 from the final individual medal. Anna Bylsma (42nd, 18:58.90) and Lauren Bohringer (45th, 19:07.01) also were top-50, followed by Leigh Ferrell (62nd, 19:23.44), Madison Findley (64th, 19:26.36), Kristina Findley (82nd, 19:48.67) and Jenna Lally (99th, 20:04.58).
For the No. 15 boys, senior Nick Strayer was seventh (16:01.5 for 5,000 meters) at the Culver (Ind.) Academies Invitational Saturday. The Lions (152 points) were fifth, seven points from third.
Benjamin Wuggazer (30th, 16:46.2), John O’Halloran (36th, 16:57.9), John Barrette (37th, 16:58.7), Maks Waschuk (43rd, 17:00.9), Charles Ciesla (48th, 17:06.7) and Patrick Collins (52nd, 17:13.1) were top 60.
LTHS girls volleyball
The Lions (17-3) defeated Wheaton Warrenville South 25-14, 25-16 Sept. 20 and moved to 2-0 in West Suburban Silver play by beating Proviso West 25-7, 25-10 Sept. 19.
Anabelle Montgomery, Grace Turner and Taylor Carroll (6 kills each), Maggie Kachmarik (6 digs), Kiley Mahoney (4 aces) and Abby Markworth (18 assists, 5 digs, 2 aces) fueled the Lions.
