Halloween Ghost Hunt

Hey Boos and Dudes, the 2nd annual of North Riverside Mall’s Halloween Ghost Hunt is happening this Saturday! There will be 12 ghosts hidden around the mall and it’s your job to find them. You are not completely on your own though, for all participants will be given clues about where the creatures are hiding. Every ghost you find will be given a specific number that you can check off on your sheet. If you follow the clues, complete your clue sheet and turn it in to customer service, then you will be gifted a sugar skull cookie. North Riverside Park Mall, 7501 Cermak Rd.

Brew Moon Beer & Band Fest
Saturday Oct. 21, 6-11 p.m.
Come attend the western suburb’s largest beer tasting event at the McCook Athletic and Exposition Center. There will be local breweries present that will have their signature beers on tap for everyone of age to try. Enjoy all the beers you would like while Brew Moon raises money for local non-profits organizations. For this year’s event, the two Brew Moon charities include Community Support Services and Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Foundation. Aging Well: These Are Heavy Times!

Calling all grandparents! Come to Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library on Friday to learn about resources in Brookfield for you, your beloved families, and grandkids. These resources include everything for your mental health and overall wellness. Brookfield’s Aging Well Team will show you all there is to know for, you guessed it, aging well! Aging can be a pain, but not when there are resources implemented just for you. Speakers will be from the township mental health boards, NAMI, the Loft, a Police Department Social Worker. A music therapist will be present as well. This free event will take place in the lower level of the library and all participants must sign up at least 3 days before the event. Riverside Township Lions Club Candy Days

The Riverside Township Lions Club will join Lions Clubs around the state for Candy Days, which will be held locally Thursday and Friday, October 19 and 20. Candy Days, held each year in October, annually raise more than $1 million to help the blind, visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired. On Candy Days, Riverside Township Lions and volunteers give away candy and accept donations on street corners and in shopping areas and other public areas in Riverside and North Riverside. Lions throughout the state join forces to raise funds, which are used either locally or statewide. Programs include hearing screenings for children and adults; used eyeglasses collections; vision screenings; and Camp Lions for visually and/or hearing-impaired children and adults. Brookfield Reads is back and better than ever with a community-wide reading and book discussion with Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala. The novel is about family, food, and murder! A young woman who is helping her family’s Filipino restaurant is accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend who just so happened to be a restaurant reviewer. The book discussion, author event, and Sweets Remembered will all be happening from the 18th until the 23rd. Chicago Sweets Remembered will include histories of Chicago’s sweet, delicious bakeries and other well-known baking companies such as Keebler, Heinnemans, Maurice Lenell, and more.
