The village of Brookfield is bracing for snowfall that could dump more than a foot of snow on the area from Friday through Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Cook County, forecasting snow accumulations above 2 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.

As of Thursday night, the snow was expected to start early Friday morning and continue through Saturday morning, with periods of heavy snow and winds.

Riverside Brookfield High School, Riverside Elementary School District 96 ,and Brookfield, LaGrange Park District 95 all are moving to a remote schedule Friday. Lyons Township High School District 204 is implementing a traditional snow day.

Brookfield announced that its snow parking restrictions will go into effect sometime on Friday and the restrictions will last for 48 hours after they are triggered.

Residents are urged to use driveways and garages to free up space on the streets and to move their vehicles to the correct side of the street as soon as possible, preferably by tonight, for the snowplows. To learn about which part of the street is right the villages asks residents to look at the signs for guidance.

The village also asked residents to leave their vehicles on the same side of the street until 8 p.m. on Friday, even if the plow has cleared their street, to allow for multiple passes by the snowplows.

Residents can call the village’s Snow Hot Line at 708-387-SNOW or visit the village website for updates on the snow parking restrictions and snow removal operations. They can also sign up for text, phone or email alerts on the website.

The village’s waste hauler, Groot Industries, will start its drivers an hour early on Friday to get them off the road before the heavy snow and winds begin.

Residents who have Friday as their service day are advised to have their trash, recycling and Christmas trees out by 5 a.m.
