Brookfield resident and regional nonprofit leader Michelle Parker is the newest member of the Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library Board of Trustees.

The library announced Wednesday that Parker, who has lived in Brookfield since 2015, will fill the unexpired board position formerly held by Jeanne McTeagues, who resigned for personal reasons between the board’s December and January meetings. Parker will be sworn into her new role at the board’s April meeting.

Parker is the vice president and executive director of Audubon Great Lakes, the regional office for the National Audubon Society, a nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats. She is also an observer for the Great Lakes Commission, an international agency operated by eight American states and two Canadian provinces, and the vice president of the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission, appointed by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker in 2022.

In a written statement, Parker said she worries about the pressure placed on libraries in the face of censorship.

“I have long considered becoming more involved with our library and schools to support these critical community centers through these complex times,” she said.
